Some facts about Cromer
- The town was first known as Elm
Valley and was officially named after Lord Cromer of England when the CNR railway came
through in 1907.
- The British American grain elevator was built in 1908. It
was demolished in 1930.
- The United Grain Growers elevator was built around 1917.
- The Manitoba Pool
Elevator Association began in 1926 with
the elevator building ready in 1927.
- The Cromer Railway Station was built in 1911.
- The United Church was built in 1911, with both church and Manse located in town.
- The Anglican Church was built in 1915 just south of town and the Manse was located in
town. The church closed around 1936 and the building was moved to Reston, Manitoba
in the 1960's.
- The first store was built in 1909 and was owned and operated by Mr. Williams and was
located on the east side of the Pipestone creek and south of the railway. It was
moved into town in 1911.
- The first garage was built in 1918 by Murray Gray and Charlie Radke.
- The Cromer Post Office began in 1910 with Mr. W.T. Williams as postmaster until 1913.
